Third Grade: Expanding Thinking, Embracing Responsibility
Third Grade at Elvel School marks a major leap forward. Students begin to think beyond the literal—analyzing, inferring, and making deeper connections across subjects. Academics become more rigorous, but so does each student’s ability to meet those challenges. With growing maturity, students are now more independent, more accountable, and more aware of their role in a learning community.
By the end of Third Grade, our students are:
Reading longer texts across genres and discussing theme, perspective, and structure
Writing persuasive pieces, stories, and informative reports with clear organization
Mastering multiplication, division, fractions, and solving multi-step word problems
Conducting experiments and drawing conclusions in science
Comparing cultures, exploring geography, and understanding civic responsibility
Strengthening bilingual fluency and academic vocabulary in both English and Spanish
Demonstrating time management, collaboration, and personal ownership of their work
Third Grade is when children begin to truly see themselves as learners and leaders. They not only grasp the content, but also how to approach challenges with resilience and curiosity. They leave this grade prepared—not just academically, but in mindset—for the more demanding upper elementary years.
